Digital Scale

Why is there a hole?!?

by Vanessa on May.09, 2012, under Digital Scale

Why is there a hole?!?

I did a lab to determine the molecular weight of an unknown volatile liquid.

The unknown liquid was put in a flask covered by aluminum foil which was then put in a hot water bath.

WHY DO WE PUT A HOLE IN THE FOIL??!!?

After vaporization the flask was let cool and then weighed using a digital scale

(I understand we want to let some of the vapor escape as well as other gases (N2 O2, water vapor etc) but with the increased temperature isn’t more vapor than we want going to escape?

2012 resolution-Loose weight, and eat healthy?

Kay so im 14, about to be 15, and the last time i weighed myself, was about a month after school started, and that was on a digital scale, and i weighed 110lbs. Then a month ago, i tried to weigh myself, but it was one of those things were you have to level it out. when it was in the middle, i was like , 129 or 139 i cant remember. I hope that was wrong, seeing how it was off scale on my friend. but thinking that it could be true, REALLY got me worried.

ive always been self concious of my weight. like most girls. but i have a stomach, and its ahh . i REALLY needa tone it lets put it that way. and i have big theighs. how can i tone those things?!

What are the most foods that make you gain weight?
i like food alot and im always eating .
so i think i should eat healthy now.

So what are the best foods to eat, that dont make you gain a ton of weight?
are there any good fast food places?

what are THE MOST ffattening foods?
most fattening fast food places you should avoid/?

Something wrong with digital scale?

Something wrong with digital scale?

I weighed myself and I was 91.4 then stepped off and then on again and it was 94.0 the I tried stepping off then on again and it still read 94.0. Whenever I weigh myself the first time it always changes the 2nd but then stays consistent. So which one is it? I don’t think I’m 94.0 because I can’t even sit in the front seat of a car because you have to be 93 lbs to activate the passenger air bag.

Weighing yourself, what type of scale is more accurate (details included) expert or close opinion?

by Vanessa on Jul.03, 2011, under Digital Scale

Weighing yourself, what type of scale is more accurate (details included) expert or close opinion?

I have an analog scale. You can calibrate (adjust the pointy thing to match 0 exactly) when used on surfaces you feel may be slightly uneven. My roommate has a digital, specifically a digital Weightwatchers scale (she works and as a job with Weightwatchers over here)

So I calibrate my analog scale every time. And it always gives me a lower weight number than the digital.

HOWEVER!

So I know it’s best to weight yourself in the morning.
When I weighed myself this morning after ‘cough, y’know… business with John’, I’m at 191.4 lbs. My analog was .9 lbs lower from the digital scale.

I had 4 eggs and made one potato into hash browns. I don’t eat lunch really besides an apple (medication I take suppresses my appetite) I eat a normal portion dinner. When I weight myself later in the evening I weigh, a face slapping, 6 lbs more on the digital scale and 1 lb more on the ANALOG from the morning weight in. I’m aware water weight and food intake makes a difference when weighing oneself.

But come on, it’s my 7 year old red dusty analog vs. the sparkly digital Weightwatchers scale.

The weightwatcher digital has something where you can plug in your sex, height, age…
Also on the bottom, right under the screen that tells you your weight, in fine white print it says, BF weight, BF%, Body Water, Bone Mass. I can’t figure out how to activate it? Or is it already calculating it when I weight myself?

Which one is fooling me?

Do you think my scales are broken or just crazy?

by Vanessa on Apr.28, 2011, under Digital Scale

Do you think my scales are broken or just crazy?

I weighed myself after I dried off from my shower with my digital scales and I was 81lbs. I weighed myself 3 times to check, and then the 3rd time it said I was 83lbs. So I weighed myself a few more times and I magically hopped from 83lbs to 82lbs, then to 81lbs again. I was 81 yesterday and I haven’t over-eaten or anything. Are my scales broken or do they need new batteries? And which measurement should I take as my weight?
I’m 15 and 5′2″.

Should I go on suboxone for a poppy tea addiction?

by Vanessa on Jan.27, 2011, under Digital Scale

Should I go on suboxone for a poppy tea addiction?

I am addicted to poppy tea. I take 8-14 grams of powdered poppy pods a day. This is equivalent to about 18 mg of Oxy a day— though I do not take oxy as it make me feel too swimmy and I don’t like to buy things on the street that might be stolen/fake. When I take less than 8 mg of poppy powder I have withdraws: nightmares, sweating, very painful tummy like being stuck with knives, sore joints, crankiness, suicidal thoughts (I know better than to act on them, of course), depression, no appetite, feeling worn-out and unable to work or care for myself. (Even taking a bath sounds like too much work.) I have tried to quit *three* times twice on my own and once with my husband’s help through a slow taper. But, when I get down to the low levels around 6-5mg a day, the withdraws just seem to keep building then stress from work makes me snap and I give in to the desire to take more poppy powder to make the withdraws go away so I can get my work done. (That’s what I tell myself.. but deep inside I just feel weak and like a failure.)

This has been going on for 7 months and I’ve had enough. I want to get clean. I want to have a kid some day, to travel to places like China, I’m a long distance runner and my training has not been good. (My addition traces back to pain meds I was given after a car accident last year… after I used all of the meds I was desperate for something else like the pain meds to make my depression about not being able to run go away.) I’m back to running now, I ran 3 miles today and it was good– so, really why do I still take this drug? It’s time consuming, and some of the time I get the dose wrong and end up sick– or if I forget it I could have withdraws at work which SUCKS.

SO HERE IS MY QUESTION. I have an appointment with an addition specialist to see about going on suboxone as a stepping stone to getting off the poppys. But ,I have read online in many forums (drugs dot com for example) that suboxone is addictive and VERY hard to quit. So, this “treatment” might make things worse for me. I am not taking huge amounts of poppy and my life is not at risk from it. I don’t need to do dangerous injection or buy my drugs on the street. It is also not very expensive. So is suboxone a good idea for me? Or should I give all of my drugs to my husband. Have him buy a SAFE (this time) and go for the taper again.. this time extra slow … I even have a digital scale to make it precise…

I can’t make up my mind.

I also worry about stressing out my husband. It’s not his fault that I got in to this so why should he have to clean up for me? That’s one reason I Iike the idea of going to a doctor and suboxone. He is very supportive of whatever I want but I want to respect him and not be like those drug addicts I have read about who hurt their loved one. So, what should I do?
