How can I tell the difference between and hemorrhoid and a cut?

I have a red area that protrudes from my anus but a very small amount and is very tender to the touch. I am only 20 years old and rarely experience constipation so I don’t know why I would have hemorrhoids. I have had it for a few weeks and figured it was a cut at first but it still hasn’t healed. I don’t really wanna go to the doctor if it is just a cut because I think that it would be weird to have an old man stare at my asshole. Please help. And can anything bad happen if I just wait for it to heal up on it’s own? Any ideas to ease the pain or speed the healing process up?
